DATA-SAFE REPLATFORMING
Data-Safe Replatforming, without the risk
Replatforming your eCommerce business should create new opportunities, not put years of customer data, SEO equity, product information, or operational knowledge at risk.
At Total Commerce, we approach replatforming as a business transformation, not a simple data transfer. We help ambitious brands move from legacy, custom, or limiting commerce platforms to Shopify with a carefully planned approach to data, integrations, SEO, functionality, and day-to-day operations.
The goal isn't just to get your new store live. It's to make sure your business arrives intact, and in a better position to grow.
Your data deserves more than a migration script
A replatforming project can involve thousands of products, years of customer and order history, complex pricing structures, custom functionality, ERP connections, third-party applications, and an established organic search presence.
Moving all of that from one platform to another isn't as simple as exporting a CSV and importing it somewhere else.
Different platforms structure data differently. Custom fields may not have a direct equivalent. Integrations can depend on legacy workflows. URLs can change. Historical orders and customer records can require special handling. And seemingly small omissions can create significant operational or SEO problems after launch.
That's why we start with the data, not the destination.
We map what exists, determine what needs to move, understand where it lives, identify what needs to change, and build a migration strategy around the way your business actually operates.
01
Audit & Discovery
Before anything moves, we need to understand everything that matters.
We audit your existing commerce platform, data structures, integrations, workflows, SEO architecture, and custom functionality. We identify where critical data lives and how different systems interact with one another.
This gives us a complete picture of your current ecosystem and highlights potential risks before they become migration-day problems.
We assess:
- Products, variants, SKUs and collections
- Customer profiles and segmentation
- Historical orders and transactional data
- Custom fields and platform-specific data
- Content, pages and blog data
- SEO metadata and URL structures
- ERP, CRM, PIM, WMS and other integrations
- Custom functionality and business workflows
02
Data Mapping & Migration Architecture
Your old platform and Shopify won't always speak the same language.
We create a detailed data map showing how information should move from your existing systems into Shopify and its supporting ecosystem. Where there isn't a one-to-one relationship, we determine the appropriate Shopify-native structure, integration, app or custom solution.
We also establish what should, and shouldn't, be migrated.
The result is a migration blueprint that gives your team visibility into exactly what is moving, where it is going, and how it will be validated.
03
Clean, Transform & Migrate
Data migration is an opportunity to clean up years of accumulated complexity.
We identify duplicate, outdated, incomplete, or poorly structured information before it reaches your new store. Data is transformed to fit the new architecture while preserving the information your business actually needs.
Then we migrate it in controlled stages.
Rather than treating launch as one enormous data dump, we use repeatable migration processes that allow us to test, identify issues, refine mappings, and run the process again before the final cutover.
04
Validate Everything
Getting the data into Shopify is only half the job.
We validate migrated data against the source platform to make sure the information is complete, accurate, and behaving as expected.
That means checking everything from product and customer records to order history, pricing, inventory and integrations.
We also test the storefront and the workflows surrounding it, because accurate data isn't useful if the systems relying on that data don't work.
Our QA process can include:
- Product and variant validation
- Customer and order validation
- Content and metadata checks
- Integration and data-flow testing
- Checkout and transactional testing
- SEO and redirect validation
- Analytics and tracking verification
- Cross-device and user-flow QA
05
Controlled Cutover & Launch
A successful replatforming doesn't end when the new store is technically ready.
We coordinate the final migration, system connections, DNS and launch activities to minimize disruption and keep your business moving.
The goal is a controlled transition from your old platform to Shopify, not a stressful switch that leaves your team scrambling to discover what broke.
Once live, we monitor the new environment, validate critical workflows, and address issues quickly so your team can focus on customers and revenue.
