Anglers All is a decades old flyfishing staple from the heart of Colorado. For years they have provided the highest quality flyfishing gear to their customers before launching an online store with that same goal: provide their customers with the best tools for their flyfishing adventures, wherever they are. The team at Anglers found themselves in a common position, Netsuite was pricing out midmarket businesses and promising to provide very little in exchange for a high price tag. Netsuite is great when you have a complex product line, but really did not suit the needs of Anglers All. Naturally, they looked to Shopify Plus as the best all-in-one solution for eCommerce, Point of Sale, and Fulfilment. A mission that Total Commerce was all too happy to help them achieve by helping them fully migrate their online store from NetSuite to Shopify.
What we did
Anglers All had been using NetSuite’s SuiteCommerce to run their online store, which created unnecessary challenges and hurdles to smooth operation. We facilitated a migration from NetSuite to Shopify which included, but was not limited to: Fully migrating from SuiteCommerce to Shopify and removing reliance on NetSuite, managing the migration of ~20,000 SKUs along with accurate product data, ensuring support for two separate physical retail locations with Shopify POS, facilitating location-based payment splitting to handle accounting and franchise-style reporting and providing hands-on training for the Anglers All team so they can operate independently going forward.
How we did it
At Total Commerce we always start with an audit to get a baseline. This included a light audit of their website along with their Netsuite backend, and a trip to Colorado to learn more about in store receiving and operations. Once we had a good sense of how things were working now, we had to translate everything into how it would work on Shopify. This was particularly important surrounding product information and making sure it got migrated perfectly along with physical operations like creating Purchase Orders and receiving inventory.
Platform Migration and Data Strategy
As product images were stored in a non-standard NetSuite configuration, we built a custom migration script to map and load product images into Spotify correctly based on a custom field within Netsuite. In addition, we were able to use Robust NetSuite Integrator to successfully migrate:
-
Product titles
-
SKUs
-
Pricing
-
Descriptions
On top of this, we migrated 5 years of order history, customer history, and all active gift cards.
Theme and Front-End
We were able to keep UX simple and uncomplicated, while still supporting the large catalogue of products. We worked with the team to select a blazing fast Shopify theme that could support a large catalogue. We then go to work on migrating all of their blogs and informational pages. Our primary focus was on product architecture and making sure it was easy to find what you wanted either through search or navigational elements and filters. We set up search and discovery to allow for filters based on metafields and other product data.
Inventory, Retail and POS
Understanding the importance of keeping track of inventory across both digital and physical storefronts, Total Commerce worked to implement Shopify POS for both physical store locations as well as configured inventory and POS workflows for in-store sales.
To further facilitate inventory management Stocky was set up to enable inventory management and smart reordering. We also provided over ten live training sessions covering Shopify admin and POS, inventory workflow, shipping labels and fulfilment processes.
Accounting and Payments
Angler’s All had an interesting requirement, one that left me stumped until I found Bookkeep.
Even though they are a single brand, inventory “belongs” to one of the two locations. That means that when a sale takes inventory from location 1, money needs to go to the bank of location 1. And each location had separate bank accounts. Bookkeep made this a breeze since they offer payment splitting for businesses with multiple physical locations but a single online store.
Results
While a migration of this scale is in no way easy or simple, Total Commerce was up to the task. We were able to oversee the successful migration of over 20,000 SKUs and facilitate seamless online and in-store selling across two locations, all in under 16 weeks before the flyfishing busy season went into full gear! Moreover we successfully eliminated Angler’s All’s reliance on NetSuite and helped them develop the tools and training they needed to manage their Shopify store internally.
