Shopify has announced an important update to how Google Analytics tags and Meta Pixels are managed. To ensure compliance with the latest Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), these tools will no longer be managed via Online Store > Preferences in the Shopify Admin. Instead, they will require migration to dedicated apps or custom pixels.
What This Means for Your Store
Starting February 2, 2025:
Shopify will automatically convert tags and pixels that haven’t been updated into sandboxed custom pixels. While this automatic conversion may ensure continuity, it comes with potential drawbacks:
- Reduced performance and limited features.
- Possible loss or changes in data reporting for Google Analytics and Meta.
- Altered consent treatment of your pixels.
What You Should Do
To maintain optimal functionality and measurement, Shopify recommends migrating to the following apps:
- Google & YouTube: Google Analytics Tag
- Facebook & Instagram: Meta Pixel
